About institutions

Abstract

This topic describes institutions as distinct areas for working with entities, assessments, resources, and risk, and explains the use of demo institutions for test data and live institutions for real data.

Institutions are flexible workspaces where users collaborate to manage entities, assessments, resources, and risk.

Each institution has its own configuration, including specific roles, permissions, and API keys that control who can access different parts of the platform and how the platform integrates with other systems. Keeping configuration separate between institutions lets you create as many as you want to fit your needs or business contexts.

Audit events are tracked at the institution level, letting you easily review changes to entities and configuration without seeing activity from other institutions.

There are two primary types of institution:

  • Demo institutions: Used for testing functionality of the platform and integrations. A demo institution only sends demo requests and only receives demo/dummy data in the responses. This is useful because you may want to see what the data looks like, or how an integration works, without requesting real data that requires credentials or could impact an individual, for example, running a credit check or similar. When working in a demo institution, you see Entity_management_Header_bar_Institution_demo.png next to the institution name in the Manage account menu.

  • Live production institutions: Used for running live assessments on real companies and individuals. You'll see real data from your data providers, and will incur charges accordingly for assessments you run. When working in a live institution, you see Entity_management_Header_bar_Institution_live.png next to the institution name in the Manage account menu.

If your Moody's SSO account is linked to more than one institution, you can switch institutions at any time from the Manage account icon in the header bar.
